I miss when movies looked like this. Lots of my favorites in this one: Nina Hoss, Vicky Krieps, Rachel McAdams, Willem Dafoe, and of course PSH (RIP). Things feel a bit thinly-sketched in the early going, but then they start snapping into place for an ending that is somehow inevitable yet surprising. I hoped for something else, but of course it could only end this way.
Maybe it’s time to rewatch The American.
