I thought of Hugo, Babylon, Singing in the Rain: films about a love of cinema and its evolution through time. Is the acting (esp. in the childhood scene) broad? Yes, and probably intentionally so. Is there weird overdubbing? You betcha. Very much a particular flavor of Miramax release.
